Week Ending 1/25/13 S&P 500, Asset Class & Sector Performance

It was another strong week for our domestic equity markets despite the drag Apple (AAPL) had on the market.  Particuarly impressive was the average technology funds performance in the face of the Apple headwind.  The meltdown in miners continued and I would think shares of the Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX) are nearing a buying opportunity.  While the average mutual fund manager was criticized for not getting in on Apple during the last decade (criticism deserved), for now it seems to be serving them well.  Weakness in the Asian markets were seen across the board which pushed the average diversified emerging markets equity fund into negative territory for the week.

Earnings season is alive and well with a very full schedule on tap for Monday.  I'll be keeping an eye on earnings from Arrow Electronics (ARW).  Historically they have traded in line with shares of Avnet (AVT) which absolutely destroyed earnings expectations this past week.  I will also be watching earnings from Seagate Technologies (STX) to see if the upward run it has enjoyed has been justified.
